Get the medicine name first.

Start with a name you can check. The broad label “peptide therapy” leaves the details of a proposed visit or medicine unclear.

What a peptide is

Tiny pieces linked in a short string make up a peptide. Longer strings of those same pieces form proteins. Insulin belongs to this peptide group.

The word “peptide” describes how a substance is made up. The peptide label alone cannot tell you a medicine’s approval status; some have approval and some lack it, as of September 2026. Medicine review and care categories

Write down the full name, the form and the reason for treatment. A cream, a tablet and an injection are details worth naming.

Read the product’s status

Some peptides are approved medicines

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) is a US agency for reviewing medicines.

The FDA’s approved medicines for specific health problems, as of September 2026, include the semaglutide products Ozempic and Wegovy and the tirzepatide products Mounjaro and Zepbound. Examples include Ozempic and Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes, and Wegovy and Zepbound for weight loss. FDA’s semaglutide label

An approval concerns the named product and its uses; it is not approval of a whole “longevity” package, as of September 2026.

Ask and note

Which approved use, if any, is relevant to my health problem?

Some medicines are made to order

Compounding prepares or mixes medicine for an individual patient’s needs rather than using a ready-made product from a factory. FDA on how compounding works

As of September 2026, medicines made by compounding lack FDA approval, and the agency does not check their quality, effects or safety before sale.

As of September 2026, the FDA says compounding may be an option when a patient’s medical need is not met by an approved product.

Ask what need the proposed change would meet and who would make the medicine.

Watch for labels saying a product is for research

The FDA’s advice as of September 2026 is to avoid weight-drug products sold to people with either label: “for research purposes” or “not for human consumption”. The agency warns that these products may harm people and that their quality is unknown. FDA’s concerns about these products

Those words do not show that a product has been checked as a medicine for people. Ask who reviews your health, what medicine is proposed and who takes care of you afterward.

Ask and note

Who is responsible for the assessment and the next review?
